Britse politie met rode kaken: cannabisplantage blijkt warme garage voor cavia's
'Simon' en 'Kenny' zijn twee verdachten die de Britse politie niet
snel zal vergeten. De helikopter van de arm der wet ontdekte een
warmtebron boven de garage van de 42-jarige Pam Hardcastle in Bradford
en de politie vermoedde dat de dame er een cannabisplantage huisvestte.
Bij stevig, nader onderzoek bleek het om een verwarmingstoestel voor
twee cavia's te gaan: Simon en Kenny. Schaamte overviel het corps van
West Yorkshire, dat prompt excuses aanbood.
Liefst zes agenten in drie voertuigen voerden, met een huiszoekingsbevel
in de hand, de raid op de woonst van Pam Hardcastle uit. De vrouw was
op dat moment niet thuis en schrok enorm toen haar moeder haar belde dat
ze van de politie naar huis moest komen van haar werk.
"Mijn
moeder vertelde de agenten dat ik twee cavia's als huisdieren had en dat
de garage daarom verwarmd werd met een elektrisch toestel", verklaart
Hardcastle aan de Daily Mail. "Toch forceerden ze het poortje van de
buren om zich toegang tot de garage te verschaffen. Er waren overal
agenten en iedereen vroeg zich af wat ik had misdaan. GĂȘnant."
Dat
werd het dus ook voor de poltie, toen die de vergissing inzag en
afdroop. Nadien volgden persoonlijke verontschuldigingen van de
hoofdinspecteur. De cavia's zijn eigenlijk van de 10-jarige zoon des
huizes, Jack, en wonen nog maar drie maanden in de garage.
