Recordprijs voor oudste champagne ter wereld
Twee flessen champagne, die 170 jaar lang op de bodem van de oceaan
lagen, zijn geveild voor 54.000 euro, een record. De veiling
vond plaats in Mariehamm, hoofdstad van Aaland, een eilandengroep in de
Baltische Zee die behoort tot Finland. Het was hier dat duikers het
scheepswrak met de waardevolle lading ontdekten.
In totaal werden 145 intacte flessen gevonden in het scheepswrak, dat
tussen 1825 en 1830 moet zijn gezonken. De oorspronkelijke bestemming
van de champagne is onbekend. Mogelijk was de drank bestemd voor het hof
van de tsaar in Sint-Petersburg. De
twee geveilde flessen waren een Veuve-Clicquot van tweehonderd jaar
oud, en een fles Juglar. De fles Veuve-Clicquot werd verkocht voor
30.000 euro, een recordsom voor een veiling. De vorige
recordveiling dateert van 2008, toen een fles Dom PĂ©rignon uit 1959 voor
27.600 euro werd geveild. De fles Juglar werd verkocht voor 24.000
euro. Beide flessen gingen naar een koper uit Singapore. De
champagne is goed bewaard gebleven, omdat ze horizontaal lagen, in een
koele temperatuur en in het donker, 50 meter onder de zeespiegel. (br.hln - foto afp)
