Birth Dominic Sala
According to a letter dated January 19, 1971 of the city archivist of Leiden Mr. W. Donner, Dominic was born in 1760 in Ponjana (now called Pognana) in Lombardy. According to a note in the margin of the document "separation and division of assets", Dominic was born in January 1759.
Birth Mary Magdalena Werrel Weereld
According to a family note, her name would be Anna Magdalena Werrel. Upon further research in archives we should be alert to this fact.
According to the letter of Mr. W. Donner, Mary Magdalene was born 1758 in Trier.
Marriage
Donner's letter stated that Dominic married Mary Magdalene Werrel probably in Germany, but according to family notes the marriage was solemnized in Liege Belgium.
Settled in the Netherlands
Dominic Sala and his wife Mary Magdalene Werrel, settled in the Netherlands in 1783 and received on 10 November 1784 admission (admission to practice a profession or function) for one year.

In the register of "declaratory of residents", started in the year 1789, Dominic is listed as shopkeeper in barometers.
There are still several barometers of Dominic in circulation.
Dominic Sala has been a leading barometer maker. The barometers are of great class.
In general, richly decorated with roses and lemon wood inlay. Also "Verre églomisé" was often applied.
Verre églomisé, from the French term meaning glass gilded, is a process in which the back side of glass is gilded with gold or metal leaf.

Dominic established in 1785 the art dealer D. Sala & Sons, Leiden, purveyor to the royal household.
According to the article about Simon Johannes Sala ''Characters in the Kingdom of the Netherlands" happened as early as 1783, however, in light of previous admissions questionable.
Dominic founded in 1825 in Leiden a factory for picture frames and it is likely, until then, that he acted prints and sculptures, presumably including images of the image maker Anthony Fortunati.
House and yard
On June 10, 1797 Dominic Sala buys a house and land located on the north side of the Breedstraat between the Koornbrug and the Choorlammerstegen, bordered on one side Hendrik Daams and on the other side Jacobus Lotte. For the house was paid f 2000 .-- (seller was Edward Blom)

Dominic was on the testimony of Anthony Fortunati (image maker) and James Anderson (innkeeper) adopted as freeman of the city of Leiden on March 31, 1786.
Death
On the death of Dominic Sala, Langebrug Leiden, January 24, 1839 age 80 years (merchant from Italy), after vain, the administrators could not give the names of the parents of the deceased.
Pognana Lake Como Italy
Higher up in Pognana we find San Rocco, a small church dating from the 13th century.
Left front pew has a nameplate with the words Famiglia Sala. It shows that the pew was reserved for the "Sala famiglia"

Geertruide married in Leiden the manufacturer Hermanus Rigart van Gelder. Geertruide was entrepreneur of public auctions of movable property.
Maria Magdalena married in Leiden the blacksmith Daniel Schretlen and shared in the activities of the forge.
Michaël, Johannes, Maria Elisabeth and Petrus Franciscus, are likely sooner or at birth deceased. The dates of death are unknown.
Carolus Franciscus married in Leiden Anna Francisca Knaage. Carolus Franciscus was like his brother Carolus Dominicus brewer and mirror maker.
Carolus Dominicus married in Leiden Willemina Katrina Rehorst who also worked in the family business in the Breestraat Leiden.Willemina Katrina was 26 years old when she died. Carolus Dominicus remarried after nine years with Catherine Elizabeth Böhmer from Wattenscheid Germany.
Daughter Engelina Maria from the first marriage died when she was 18 years old.
Anna Maria married in Leiden Wilhelmus Josephus Borzo from 's Hertogenboschborn in Bugiallo Italy. He was a shopkeeper, seller of prints and barometer maker.
Carolus Antonius mirror maker and art dealermarried Maria Sibilla Spekman from Enkhuizen. They had 13 children
The three brothers lived near the family business in the Breestraat district 4 in Leiden.
