Poetica

I am tired of limited poetry

Of well behaved verse

Of public servant poetry with time clock card, protocols and expressions of appreciation to Mr. Director.

I am tired of poetry that has to look up in the dictionary the vernacular meaning of a word.

Down with the purists.

All the words especially of prejudice

All the constructions of syntax and exceptions

All the rhythms especially the innumerable

I am tired of flirting poetry

Political

Rickety

Syphilitic

Of all poetry that surrenders to anything that is not its true self

That can't be poetry

That is bookkeeping,  a table of co-sines, the perfect lover with hundred examples of letters and the  different ways to please women, etc..

I want rather the poetry of madmen

The poetry of the drunkards

The difficult and poignant poetry of drunkards

The poetry of Shakespeare's fools

- I will not acknowledge any poetry that isn't freedom

Madrigal

The sunlight reflects the moon

reflects the moon, falls on the sea.

From the sea, ascends to your face

comes to shine in your eyes

and you look into lonely eyes,

into eyes that are yours.

That is how I feel in lunary ecstasy,

the sunlight singing within me.

Swallow

Outside the swallow is saying:

"I have spent all day in vain, in vain!"

Swallow, swallow

My song is yet sadder!

"I have spent all life in vain, in vain...

schwester mond

schöne mondin
dein stilles licht
versagt sich
der verbrüderung
der menschenschritte
kein astronaut
hindert das silberne
gitter der weiden
vorm tiefen blaugrund
und wer wollte
mich mahnen
dass dein schimmer
nur leihgabe ist
wenn er das gesicht
des geliebten hebt
aus der blindheit
der nacht

mitten im tode

nimm den
lebendigen morgen
auf einer brücke
aus vogelstimmen
tanzt er im licht

erwärmen will ich

sage ich komme

so lange du lebst

Uit: Two captains (Vertaald door Bernard Isaacs)

“Although I have survived, I have little reason to rejoice, as I shall soon be undergoing an operation, after which I can only trust in God's mercy, for God alone knows how I'm going to live without feet. What I have to tell you is this.

The St. Maria became icebound in the Kara Sea and since October 1912 has been drifting steadily north with the Arctic icefields. When we left the schooner she was in latitude 82° 55'. She is standing in the middle of an icefield, or rather that was where she was from the autumn of 1912 until the day I left her. She may be free of the ice this year, but I think this is more likely to happen next year, when she will be round about the spot where the Fram broke free. The men who have remained in her have enough victuals to last until October or November of next year. In any case, I hasten to assure you that we did not leave the ship because she was in a hopeless plight. I had to carry out Captain's orders, of course, but I must admit that they fell in with my own wishes. When I was leaving the ship with the thirteen men, Ivan Lvovich gave me a packet addressed to the Head of the Hydrographical Board—who has since died-and a letter for you. I dare not risk mailing them, because, being the only survivor, I am anxious to preserve all evidence of my honourable conduct. I therefore ask you to send for them or come to Archangel yourself, as I shall be spending at least three months in hospital.

"Awaiting your reply, I remain your obedient servant.

"I. Klimov, Navigating Officer."

The address had been washed away, but had obviously been written in the same bold upright hand on the thick yellowed envelope.

This letter must have become for me something in the nature of a prayer, for I used to repeat it every evening while waiting for my father to come home.

He used to come in late from the wharf. The steamers arrived now every day and took on cargoes, not of flax and grain as they used to do, but of heavy cases containing cartridges and gun parts. Burly, thickset and moustached, he used to come in wearing a cloth cap and tarpaulin trousers. Mother would talk and talk, while he ate in silence, once in a while clearing his throat or wiping his moustache. Then he would take us children-my sister and me—and lie down to sleep. He smelt of hemp, sometimes of apples or grain, and sometimes of rancid machine-oil, and I remember what a depressing effect that smell had on me.“

Femmes, vizirs, eunuques, icoglans.

Vont s'engloutir; leurs trônes sont broyés;

„This is the dream I have: I'm running away from men who are trying to damage me permanently. I love mommy. I know she's on Dex, and when she's not on Dex she's on Librium to counteract the Dex jitters so she acts more extreme than usual. A second orgasm cools her shoulders, the young girl keeps her hands joined over the curly brownhaired's ass, the wire grating gives way, the curly brownhaired slides the young girl under him his pants are still around his knees his fingernails claw the soil his breath sucks in the young girl's cheek blows straw dust around, the mute young girl's stomach muscles weld to the curly- haired's abdominal muscles, the passing wind immediately modulates the least organic noise that's why one text must subvert (the meaning of) another text until there's only background music like reggae: the inextricability of relation-textures the organic (not meaning) recovered, stupid ugly horrible a mess pinhead abominable vomit eyes- pop-out always-presenting-disgust-always presenting-what-people-flee always-wanting-to-be-lonely infect my mother my mother, blind fingernails spit the eyes wandering from the curly-headed, the curly- headed's hidden balls pour open cool down on the young girl's thigh. Under the palmtrees the RIMAS seize and drag a fainted woman under a tent, a flushing-forehead blond soldier burning coals glaze his eyes piss stops up her sperm grasps this woman in his arms, their hands their lips touch lick the woman's clenched face while the blond soldier's greasy wine-stained arm supports her body, the young girl RECOVERED.“

Near Catalonia

We have the sweet noise of the sea at our back
and before us the bitter shouting of the gun;
and the brass wing of aeroplanes and the sun
that walks about us burning. Here we wound
our feet on metal fragments of the bomb,
the sword unburied and the poisoned ground.
Here we stand; here we lie; here we must see
what we can find potent and good to set
between the Fascist and the deep blue sea.

If we had bricks that could make a wall we would use them,
but bricks will break under a cannonball;
if we had iron we would make a wall,
but iron rings and splinters at the bomb
and wings go across the sky and over a wall,
and if we made a barrier with our earth
they would murder the earth with Fascist poison,
and no one will give us iron for the wall.
We have only the bodies of men to put together,
the wincing flesh, the peeled white forking stick,
easily broken, easily made sick,
frightened of pain and spoiled by evil weather;
we have only the most brittle of all things the man
and the heart the most iron admirable thing of all,
and putting these together will make a wall.

„Maigrir est une chose grave. J’essaye souvent. On meurt quand même.““

Uit: Soldiers of Fortune

„A year before Mrs. Porter’s dinner a tramp steamer on her way to the capital of Brazil had steered so close to the shores of Olancho that her solitary passenger could look into the caverns the waves had tunnelled in the limestone cliffs along the coast. The solitary passenger was Robert Clay, and he made a guess that the white palisades which fringed the base of the mountains along the shore had been forced up above the level of the sea many years before by some volcanic action.

Olancho, as many people know, is situated on the northeastern coast of South America, and its shores are washed by the main equatorial current. From the deck of a passing vessel you can obtain but little idea of Olancho or of the abundance and tropical beauty which lies hidden away behind the rampart of mountains on her shore. You can see only their desolate dark-green front, and the white caves at their base, into which the waves rush with an echoing roar, and in and out of which ¦y continually thousands of frightened bats.

The mining engineer on the rail of the tramp steamer observed this peculiar formation of the coast with listless interest, until he noted, when the vessel stood some thirty miles north of the harbor of Valencia, that the limestone formation had disappeared, and that the waves now beat against the base of the mountains themselves. There were five of these mountains which jutted out into the ocean, and they suggested roughly the five knuckles of a giant hand clenched and lying flat upon the surface of the water. They extended for seven miles, and then the caverns in the palisades began again and continued on down the coast to the great cliffs that guard the harbor of Olancho’s capital.

“The waves tunnelled their way easily enough until they ran up against those five mountains,” mused the engineer, “and then they had to fall back.” He walked to the captain’s cabin and asked to look at a map of the coast line. “I believe I won’t go to Rio,” he said later in the day; “I think I will drop off here at Valencia.”

A Day of Dream

On that bold hill, against a broad blue stream,

stood Arthur Phillip on a day of dream;

what time the mists of morning westward rolled

and heaven flowered on a bay of gold.

Here, in the hour that shines and sounds afar,

flamed first Old England's banner like a star;

Here in a time august with prayer and praise,

was born the nation of these splendid days,

and here, this land's majestic yesterday

of immemorial silence died away

Amongst the Roses

I walked through a Forest, beneath the hot noon,

On Etheline calling and calling!

One said: “She will hear you and come to you soon,

When the coolness, my brother, is falling.”

But I whispered: “O Darling, I falter with pain!”

And the thirsty leaves rustled, and hissed for the rain,

Where a wayfarer halted and slept on the plain;

And dreamt of a garden of Roses!

Of a cool sweet place,

And a nestling face

In a dance and a dazzle of Roses.

In the drought of a Desert, outwearied, I wept,

O Etheline, darkened with dolours!

But, folded in sunset, how long have you slept

By the Roses all reeling with colours?

A tree from its tresses a blossom did shake,

It fell on her face, and I feared she would wake,

So I brushed it away for her sweet sake;

In that garden of beautiful Roses!

In the dreamy perfumes

From ripe-red blooms

In a dance and a dazzle of Roses.

„Deflores. What makes your lip so strange? This must not be betwixt us.

Beatrice. The man talks wildly.

Deflores. Come kisse me with a zeal now.

Beatrice. Heaven I doubt him.

Deflores. I will not stand so long to beg 'em shortly.

Beatrice. Take heed Deflores of forgetfulness, 'twill soon betray us.

Deflores. Take you heed first;

Faith y'are grown much forgetfull, y'are to blame in't.

Beatrice. He's bold, and I am blam'd for't.

Deflores. I have eas'd you of your trouble, think on't, I'me in pain,

And must be as'd of ou; 'tis a charity,

Justice invites your blood to understand me.

Beatrice. I dare not.

Deflores. Quickly.

Beatrice. Oh I never shall, speak if yet further of that I may lose

What has been spoken, and no sound remain on't.

would not hear so much offence again for such another deed.

Deflores. Soft, Lady, soft; the last is not yet paid for, oh this act

Has put me into spirit; I was as greedy on't

As the parcht earth of moisture when the clouds weep.

Did you ot mark, I wrought my self into't.

Nay sued, and kneel'd for't: Why was all that pains took?

You see I have thrown contempt upon your gold,

Not that I want it, for I doe piteously,

In order I will come unto't, and make use on't,

But 'twas not held so pretious to begin with;

For I place wealth after the heels of pleasure,

And where I not resolv'd in my belief

That thy virginity were perfect in thee,

I should but take my recompense with grudging,

As if I had but halfe my hopes I agreed for.“
