Uit: Standard Life of a Temporary Pantyhose Salesman (Vertaald door Ercole Guidi)

„It is for this very slothfulness of the salutations, of the trite chattering, that Angelo, feeling himself cast into this terrarium of oblivious amphibians, has never done anything to bring a dormant expectation, a want, to the fore.

The seabed of sex is looked upon from the height of surreal enticing, the flesh so very much at the bottom of the shopping list that one never gets to it.

He - the only one, perhaps, to shatter the sacrality of the rite with his terroristic causticity, or, if in a martyr mood, with that other «internal» polemic on how to affirm oneself homo-socially; with a bazooka, that is - saw but sexless angels around him and inside of him.

Here, courtship and seduction ruled, and he was so much more excited by a hasty blandishment than by a mannered clash between prey and hunter.

To pursue is so wearisome, like exchanging wishes, pledges, loyalty, or looking forward to asthenia, or standing that extra minute in each other's face.

Nay; he observed, like a gecko on a beam.

Here, too, it would have been nice to desire and be desired in the light of day and move on to this ineffable «point» of the sex without thinking of shutting off the world or turning a pumpkin into a cart.

To move a few steps forward, to be able to stand before the other the necessary time and focus within a common mental space, if possible; then swerve one step to the side and proceed, resuming one's own forward course.

Now, seeing this smile of friendly complicity and the hand cordially waved, Angelo thought he had found in it the signal of a half-covered path, against any prevision, and hurled himself toward the remaining half, toward this unknown man that was calling him.“

Uit: A Clockwork Orange

'What's it going to be then, eh?'

The chelloveck sitting next to me, there being this long big plushy seat that ran round three walls, was well away with his glazzies glazed and sort of burbling slovos like 'Aristotle wishy washy works outing cyclamen get forficulate smartish'. He was in the land all right, well away, in orbit, and I knew what it was like, having tried it like everybody else had done, but at this time I'd got to thinking it was a cowardly sort of a veshch, O my brothers. You'd lay there after you'd drunk the old moloko and then you got the messel that everything all round you was sort of in the past. You could viddy it all right, all of it, very clear – tables, the stereo, the lights, the sharps and the malchicks – but it was like some veshch that used to be there but was not there not no more. And you were sort of hypnotized by your boot or shoe or a finger-nail as it might be, and at the same time you were sort of picked up by the old scruff and shook like you might be a cat. You got shook and shook till there was nothing left. You lost your name and your body and your self and you just didn't care, and you waited till your boot or your finger-nail got yellow, then yellower and yellower all the time. Then the lights started cracking like atomics and the boot or finger-nail or, as it might be, a bit of dirt on your trouser-bottom turned into a big big big mesto, bigger than the whole world, and you were just going to get introduced to old Bog or God when it was all over. You came back to here and now whimpering sort of, with your rot all squaring up for a boohoohoo. Now, that's very nice but very cowardly. You were not put on this earth just to get in touch with God. That sort of thing could sap all the strength and the goodness out of a chelloveck.“

Non Loin D’une Mare
Habitée D’une Faune
Qui
M’est Particulierement Connue

Je suis la baignoire de sable
identique aux brouillards d’été
La nuit où tout s’émiette
La chaleur m’enveloppe

Imaginez le citron sans sucre
L’immoralité prochaine
du devenir
On dirait une tapisserie à fleurs

Un vague café
une chose noble qui amollit les bons
sentiments
de l’allumette
au rendez-vous que l’on n’a pas

La chatte
l’obscur

seul
cherchez la solution de mes désirs
Mes amis mes amis mes amis

Tod eines Hundes in Goa

Transkript aus dem Reisebüchlein

Die Handschrift,

unlöschbar,

fordert vom Gedanken

Reife.

Lange Zeit saß

ich hoch über

meinem Fluß.

Wohin fließen

meine Wasser jetzt?

Unsichtbar, doch –

fließen sie noch?

Wenn mein Tod käme,

er träfe einen Geliebten.

Welch sinnlose Angst,

welch eitle.

Wo doch der Hund,

vom Rattengift gelahmt,

Uit: Im Reiche des silbernen Löwen I

Uit: The Fool's Journey

„Almost too late, Rosa Ruiz saw the host of angels gathered at the bottom of the stairs. They were weeping in a bright, feathered mass, inconsolable, their burnished locks tumbling forward on the steps.
In other times, Rosa might have thought it strange to see so many together. In other times, she might have stopped to listen to their whisperings, or even worked up the courage to try touching one of them.

The times were different now. For good or ill the world had called out to angels through book, video, and even Twitter. Now they were here. Some days there were so many it was hard to walk around. She shook her head and crossed herself quickly.
It was bad luck to step on an angel.
Rosa picked up her basket of dust rags and brushes and squeezed past them on her way up the stairs. They didn't even look up. She climbed to the top of the steps and was reaching into her bag for her large ring of keys when she spotted the feather.
She had never known an angel to let a feather drop.
Slowly she stooped to pick it up, then held it to the light. The feather was translucent, like opals edged with gold, fine as a saint's halo in a holy picture. For a moment, the colors danced in flame, then shriveled to brown in her hand until it seemed nothing more than a dry seed husk from a maple tree.
Rosa shrugged and let the wind carry it away. Maybe, she thought, it would find its way back to its angel.
As she let herself into the apartment, she glanced over her shoulder. The angels were still at the bottom of the stairs, crying harder than before.“

The Guelder-Rose

The Cossack is dying, the maiden crying :"

Let me stay beside you, deep in earth I would be lying ! "

" O if you are truly such a faithful maiden,

Then become a guelder-rose with snowy blossom laden.

Dew that in the morning on the mowing settles

Shall not weigh upon my grave but on your flowing tresses.

When the hot sun scorches and the blossom blanches

Heat shall not dry up my bones but shrivel your green branches. "

" O my sweet, how can it give you any pleasure

That I glow so red when I feel sorrow beyond measure ?

O my sweet, how can it be a cause for gladness

That I blossom when my heart is full of gall and sadness ?

Will the grave be dearer to you, my beloved,

If I am a green tree rising silently above it ? "

" Even my own mother could not grieve so deeply

As you grieve for me, my guelder-rose tree was already growing.

People with small children came and stood there gazing,

Never had they seen before a wonder so amazing :

" Who is it lies buried here beside the highway

Where a guelder-rose is blossoming in frost so spryly ?

See its green and slender leaves there twisting, curling,

And the blood-red berries in its snowy blossom stirring ! "

In reply the guelder-rose its leaves uncovered :

" Why must I be silent at the side of my beloved ?

O the tree is silent while the axe is swinging,

When the man cuts deeply, then the tree is singing.

First a branch he severs, then a pipe he's playing,

With an arrow from the guelder-rose his heart assailing.“

Uit: The War (La Guerra, vertaald door Alexander Gross)

“LISETTA: You stay away from my basket.

THIRD: It's okay. We were just joking.

LISETTA: Stop it, I said, leave me alone.

FIRST: Just come with us, gorgeous—we know how to make you happy.

LISETTA: What's that supposed to mean? I may be a peasant girl, but I know how to behave myself.

SECOND: Just show us what's in your basket.

LISETTA: You leave my basket alone!

THIRD: What have you got in there? If you have something to sell, we'll buy it from you.

LISETTA: I have nothing I would sell to you.

FIRST: Don't you think we can pay? Look, we've got money. What's in that basket?

LISETTA: Oh, alright, I'll let you see. Some cheese, half a dozen eggs, and a few apples.

SECOND: How much do you want for the cheese?

LISETTA: One piastre.

THIRD: One piastre! How much are the eggs then?

LISETTA: I'll give you all six for two piastres.

SECOND: I'll show you what I'll give you for this cheese: the reeking bottom of the Pope's ass.

LISETTA: Give me back my cheese.

FIRST: (to Second) Hey, shame on you—don't tell me you were trying to cheat a poor little peasant girl.

SECOND: So how's that your business?

FIRST: It sure as hell is my business, piddle face.

SECOND: Yeah, who are you calling piddle face, turd head?

FIRST: I'm calling you piddle face, crotch rot. And I am not a turd head.

(he reaches for his dagger—they pretend to be about to fight. Lisetta watches, and while she is off-guard, the third soldier seizes her basket. All three run off laughing, taking the basket with them.)“

Der 1. Gesang

5.

Dises ward kaum ausgesaget,

Als ihn Libewig begrüsst:

Libewig, di ihm behaget,

Durch di alles Leid versüsst!

Er begunte strakks zubrennen,

Wi si bot di Lilgenhand:

Seelig fing er sich zunennen,

Weil er seinen Trost erkand.

6.

Libewig hilt ihn umpfangen,

Als si Libhold fest umschlos:

Jener küsste Mund und Wangen,

Si lis Libespfeile los.

So beflammten ihn di Flammen

Heiliglichter Jesuslib.

Was nur himmlisch, must entstammen,

Seraphinisch ward sein trib.
